2021 may indeed be a lucky year, at least a lucky start! The latest news shows that Georgia may contribute two US senators for the Dems, enabling Biden to push for more centralist agendas. Of course the final deadline is this coming Friday so we do not know 100%. But I like the analysis of a NYT reporter that “Perdue ran well ahead of Ossoff in the election’s first round two months ago — suggesting that the last two months of events had hurt Republicans.” I would say two things have changed: The higher stake for everyone that has translated into high turnout for Dems but not for GOP, due to damages caused by the entirely self-centered Trump sowing the seed of doubt for election in Georgia.
The speech of Mitch McConnell today was an excellent one and deserved a high five. It is the first time that I heard that this election is not that close in the margin. He also explained why Congress should not act like the final judge on voters’ voices: There will be no legitimate election in the future as we know it today.
The Pro-Trump mob that stormed the Congress today actually may bring positive effects: It pushed the ugly cause to a new extreme, near-civil war level — at a small scale. The Trump gang has effectively isolated itself from the rest of the country by shooting itself on the foot. Sorry to hear the one death but overall, the loss has been controlled at a small scale.
