Came across this website that shows the accumulative vaccination numbers by countries. If you just look at the absolute number of people who have been vaccinated up to January 17 (London time), the US, with more than 12.28 million people already vaccinated by January 15, 2021, is the first and in the graph its number is way above anyone else. China with 10 million on January 10, 2021, came to the second, although one could argue that country has a very low case number so the government is probably take preemptive steps.
If you look at the number of vaccinations per 100 people by countries, then because its huge population base, the US is only 3.71 per 100 people, while Israel is the best at 27.1 per 100 people. The second is UAE at 19.04 per 100. The third is Bahrain at 8.06 and the fourth UK at 6.34. The US is #5, still not too bad. Remember, this number in the States has been achieved with the Trump administration totally giving up on providing any guidance and assistance.
If you listen to the US news, all you will hear is that the country is lagging behind its vaccination schedule, which is true but perhaps the original schedule was too optimistic? Anyway, given the existing numbers and the trend, if the Biden administration provides more push the US will certainly do better than it does now.
